The Perfect Alaska National Parks Road Trip

Alaska is home to eight of the country’s most grandeur national parks. Of those eight parks, only three of them are actually accessible by car (the other five require chartering a plane to get you there, which can be a bit pricey). The three Alaska national parks that we visited on our road trip were Kenai Fjords National Park, Denali National Park, and Wrangell St. Elias National Park. This July, we set out to visit all three of these remarkable parks but only had one week to do so. Was our week a little jam packed? You bet it was! But with the help of the Alaskan night sun, we…

Post Summary: What to do in Kenai Fjords National Park Kenai Fjords National Park blew us away! Maybe you’re currently planning a trip to Kenai Fjords or have never heard of the park. Either way, I hope you can also experience this incredible place one day! Is your trip to Kenai Fjords National Park a part of a larger trip to…

Snowshoeing in Rocky Mountain National Park

Rocky Mountain National Park is one of those national parks that keeps pulling me back. I’ve been to Rocky Mountain a total of five times — more than I’ve been to any other national park. I am always in awe of its sheer beauty and grandeur. Every other time I have visited, it’s been during the summer. But this was the first time I have visited in the winter. And it’s definitely just as spectacular in the winter — maybe more. Rocky Mountain is home to some of the most striking mountain landscapes in the U.S. and when these peaks are blanketed with snow they are incredible. My favorite activity…

Guadalupe Mountains – The Top of Texas

Despite having grown up in Texas, only a day’s drive away (8 hours), both Randy and I had never visited Guadalupe Mountains National Park. It wasn’t until last month that I decided that it was not OK that there was a national park in my home state that I had NEVER been to. Can you believe that my family has driven past this park several times but never stopped? So, we planned a long weekend trip out to West Texas. Guadalupe Mountains National Park is home to Guadalupe Peak, the highest point in the entire state of Texas. Obviously, our visit to Guadalupe Mountains would not be complete without conquering…

Virgin Islands National Park – The Best of Saint John in Two Days

Virgin Islands National Park is located on the island of Saint John, which is the smallest of three main islands in the U.S. Virgin Islands. It’s been a week since we left Saint John and I don’t think I’ve gone a day without dreaming about going back one day. Because of time constraints, my husband and I were only able to spend two nights on the island but in those couple days, Saint John has completely stolen our hearts. It’d be a lie if I told you that I haven’t considered checking job postings in St. John. Surely they need a speech therapist on the island. If you are even…

One Day in Badlands National Park

My first visit to Badlands National Park was about 13 years ago during a family road trip to South Dakota to see Mount Rushmore. We didn’t spend more than a couple hours in the park and frankly I don’t remember being too impressed. But then again, I was only 13 years old. Then last week my husband approached me (aka begged me) about taking a last minute trip to South Dakota. I was anything but thrilled. I wanted to visit somewhere new. New to me at least. And South Dakota is one of those “visit only once” states, right? Reluctantly, I conceded and we booked our tickets. Sometimes marriage means…

The Ultimate Guide to Glacier National Park

On our last day in Glacier National Park, we stopped by a local giftshop to pick up a couple souvenirs to remind us of our visit. The giftshop cashier, a man who had relocated to Montana after his kids were grown, described the park as being an example of “grandeur on display”. And he was right. I have visited a number of national parks (29 to be exact), but there is something truly special about Glacier National Park. This park stands out among the rest. After a mere 30 minutes in the park, I knew that Glacier was going to be my all-time favorite national park. And I was right.…

Hiking the Highline Trail – Glacier National Park

The highline trail is frequently ranked the #1 trail in Glacier National Park for its 11.8 miles of breathtaking alpine views. The majority of the hike skirts the Garden Wall at heights of over 6,000 feet and ascends to the Granite Park Chalet. Hiking the Highline trail was one of my all-time favorite hikes. The trail is also one of the most unique trails I have hiked. The Highline is different from other trails in that the majority of the trail boasts dramatic mountain views instead of requiring hikers to climb through a forest to a higher elevation for a viewpoint. I was nervous before we started our trek, due…
