How to Secure Zion Shuttle Tickets and What To Do When You Can’t

Post Topic: Tips to Navigate the Zion Shuttle System or Skip it and Things to do Instead! Zion National Park is a wonderful place – it’s one of my favorite national parks to visit. Maybe you’re reading this post because you’re planning a trip to Zion in the near future, if that’s the case, you must know that the “main” section of the park is only available in the peak season via shuttle system. In order to protect the fragile environment and ecosystem, the park implemented a policy that in order to access the main Zion Canyon, visitors must park at the Visitor Center and take a shuttle into the…

Biking Through Zion – The Best Way to See Zion National Park

Post Topic: Why Biking Through Zion National Park Needs to be on Your Bucket List Zion National Park is one of those “top-tier” parks that I love to visit again and again. It’s landscapes are so majestic and picturesque. Recently, Randy and I spent a Saturday biking through Zion. After the day was finished, we both agreed that it was hands-down our favorite day we’ve had on our adventure through the American West. Hiking is by far one of my favorite ways to experience America’s National Parks. But every once in a while, it’s refreshing to see the park in a different way. Biking is a great way to do…

A Quick Guide to Colorado National Monument

Post Topic: Things to do in Colorado National Monument Colorado National Monument is located right outside of Grand Junction, Colorado. Although it’s located in Colorado, it is much more similar to Utah in scenery & geological features. I honestly think Colorado National Monument was wrongfully placed in Colorado and should actually be found in Utah. But maybe that’s part of the reason that this place is so special. The national monument is made up of many different canyons, a couple of the bigger and noteworthy canyons are Monument Canyon, Ute Canyon, and Red Canyon. Just about everywhere you look in the park, you’ll see magnificent views of red rock canyons.…

The Ultimate Guide to Winter in Rocky Mountain

I’ve started to lose count of how many times I’ve been to Rocky Mountain National Park. This park is truly spectacular and I can’t seem to stay away. It’s also very quickly become one of my favorite parks to visit in the winter time. Winter in Rocky Mountain is magical and the perfect winter playground. Why You Should Visit in the Winter Rocky Mountain National Park has nearly 5 million visitors a year and the majority of those are during the warmer summer months (May – September). During the winter, the park still has plenty of activities but you’ll have to content with way fewer crowds. It’s so much easier…

6 Out-of-this-World Alpine Lake Trails near Denver

We’ve been in Denver for a couple of weeks now and we’ve spent a much time as possible seeking out frozen Alpine Lake Trails near Denver. I’ve always loved hiking in the mountains but I’m a real sucker for trails that end at an alpine lake. What’s better than a mountain view accompanied by a pristine lakeshore? Alpine lakes are usually associated with summertime hikes, but they shouldn’t be overlooked in the winter. Each of these lakes would make terrific summer hikes but they’re almost more magical in wintertime. Absolute winter wonderlands. Are you looking for epic outdoor adventures to enjoy in Colorado? 21 Photos to Convince You that Fall is the Best Time to Visit Shenandoah

I’ve always been mesmerized by the changing of seasons. Especially since growing up in Texas, where we don’t get to experience much of that. The changing color of leaves in the fall and snow falling in the winter are not something that I have gotten to experience much in my life so anytime that I do it’s always a very special treat. A couple of weekends ago, we traveled to Virginia so Randy could run a full marathon in Washington D.C. (he did phenomenal by the way!) While we were there, we decided to take advantage of our time in Virginia and headed to Shenandoah National Park for some epic…

How to Prepare for Your First Backpacking Trip

One month ago, I set out on my first backpacking trip. Although I had done a lot of day hiking, up to this point I had never spent a night out on the trail. As the trip approached, I was full of nervous excitement. I was excited to spend a few days out in nature and take in all of the gorgeous mountain views. But I was so nervous that I’d be wildly unprepared or I would forget to bring an essential item. Fortunately, with a lot of preparation and planning ahead we found ourselves prepared and had brought everything that we needed – minus one forgotten spork. There’s a…

    Backpacking the Teton Crest Trail

Post Topic: Everything You Need to Know about the Teton Crest Trail Backpacking the Teton Crest Trail was the hardest thing I have ever done in my life. The hardest thing physically, at least. As Randy and I have spent a lot of time in national parks the last couple of years, we have developed a love for hiking and exploring the national parks on foot. But, we had yet to try backpacking to experience an overnight or multi-day hike. We stumbled upon the idea of hiking the Teton Crest Trail, a 3-night backpacking hike through Grand Teton National Park. One of my favorite national parks! Were we a little…

Crater Lake: A Bucket List National Park

Crater Lake National Park has been on my bucket list for at least a decade. For years I have been looking at pictures of its deep and striking blue waters and longing to see it for myself. And let me say, the pictures don’t do this place justice. Crater Lake is located in South Central Oregon and was formed when a volcano erupted and caused the collapse of a tall mountain peak. This collapse caused the deepest lake in the United States to form. Crater Lake is over 1,900 feet deep. Since the collapse, the lake has only fed by rain and snow which maintains its clean blue quality. Although…
